Action which requires putting an individual's or group's well being before one's own.

Pretty Much Sums It Up-

There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding:

How might we proceed as a people in troubling times...?

It is a question I am grappling with now, more than ever.

I hear noises of youth screaming drunken joys from the alley below my window.

People come to this block in a car that is not their own,

Driven by a faceless stranger they vaguely know by name,

Getting served by a person pretending to be graced by their presence,

All for a tonic which provides a sense of dull like immunity...

Ignoring the fact their actions may be harming,

To a grandmother they will never meet.

Indestructible beating of vanity barreled chests-

Invincible to a degree,

Immortal til credits roll.

Irreprehensible contributions to the masses.

Those who came to pass-

Grateful,

No need to prep for final muster

Additional cause for isolation-

To which an already compromised immune system

Would encounter.

Requiring precious regulated moments,

Counting allotted blessings thru looking glass,

Praying for pain and sadness to be

Simply swept away.

Breath. Lungs. The air we cherish,

Yet take for granted.

The vital life force,

Greater than a gift of gold-

Until presented with the final offering.

We are lost as a people.

Together,

Ignoring steps which cultivate health.

Separate,

Requiring,

Isolation as a suggested key.

Neither desired,

Freedoms relinquished,

A spoiled society,

Fighting a lack of leadership.

Directionless wandering,

Wasting the charge.

This is the new now.

Moving en masse

Spinning-

Quickly,

Towards a different way.

Are we even still a civilized people?

Arrogant,

And lacking of compassion,

Ignorance-

The real virus.

What song should we sing to our imprisoned neighbors,

Windows open,

A uniting anthem-

Have we one?

Where is the joy,

In our own locked houses,

Watching the charge go up and down,

Seeking buoy's

In the setting sun,

Grasping towards

The distant fleet

Disappearing on the horizon,

Toppling over,

The sailing ships,

Squinting out to sea.

Have we shaken that last hand,

Hugged our final friend,

Hi Fived an athletes best efforts.

Most likely forever no,

But for now it's been put on hold.

And in my lifetime,

I've seen that shift.

Never dreamed it come to pass.

Wake up-

We are swimming in the tipping point.

A benevolent maestro-You came to be.
